John Dramani Mahama, the 2024 flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for heightened vigilance from party members during the 2024 general elections. Speaking at the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, Mahama emphasized the necessity of closely monitoring the ballot counting process conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Addressing a gathering of enthusiastic supporters, Mahama highlighted the critical need to protect the ballot boxes on Election Day. He stressed that ensuring the integrity of every aspect of the electoral process is essential to preventing any possible vote rigging that could favor the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mahama reassured Ghanaians of the NDC’s commitment to safeguarding their votes and urged them to turn out in large numbers to vote for the party. He pointed out that the NDC has put in place robust measures to ensure that the will of the Ghanaian people is respected and upheld.
Encouraging the NDC faithful to actively protect every vote, Mahama stated, “We need to be prepared. We’re not going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots have been counted. None of us is going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots have been counted.”
He also sought to reassure NDC supporters, saying, “I promise you that we will protect every single vote. We have had our issues with the Electoral Commission, but we’re prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.”
