We Will Use E-Levy Money Wisely – Abena Osei Promises Ghanaians

Abena Osei Asare, the Deputy Minister of Finance, assures Ghanaians that the E-levy, like other levies, would be judiciously spent and properly accounted for.

She indicated that while most Ghanaians accept the need for the tax, their main concern is government accountability.

According to the honorable deputy minister, if the e-levy is adopted by parliament, the ruling administration would assure accountability and transparency with the proceeds. She stated,

“What I hear Ghanaians say about the E-levy is that we want it and that it is fantastic,” says one observer. However, we would want to see more transparency in this area – show us how much money you gathered and what you did with it. The importance of transparency and accountability cannot be overstated.”

At the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Annual Management Retreat in Ho, Volta Region, Abena Osei Asare made the commitment.

Since its announcement as one of the new avenues championed by the Akufo Addo-led administration to tax all online and electronic monetary transactions, a sizable portion of the people has objected.
