‘We Have Not Declared Support For John Mahama – Okada Riders Association Clarify

The national executive committee of the Ghana Motor Riders Association (GMRA), commonly known as Okada, has officially refuted claims made in a recent media report that the association has endorsed former President John Dramani Mahama.

In a press release, the association clarified that a gathering held on May 31, 2024, in Ashaiman was organized by individuals purportedly sponsored by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to engage with the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama. According to the GMRA, these NDC-affiliated motor riders misrepresented themselves as acting on behalf of the entire association when they declared support for Mahama.

The association’s leadership expressed their surprise and concern over this incident, marking the second instance of such actions by the same NDC-sponsored group. The first occurrence was during the NDC primaries, where the group publicly supported Mahama’s candidacy.

GMRA executives emphasized that they are currently planning to engage with various presidential candidates to understand their proposals and how they will benefit Okada riders. They highlighted the importance of evaluating all candidates’ plans to determine which would best serve the interests of their members.

“It has been agreed also by the National Executive that all plans as presented by respective presidential candidates would be assessed to determine which one of them is in the best interest of the Association,” the leadership stated in the press release.

In light of these events, the GMRA has called on the public to disregard any declarations of endorsement for John Mahama made during the Ashaiman event, labeling it as an “NDC-organized affair.”

The press release was signed by Randolph Osei Buabeng, National Public Relations Officer, and authenticated by Mohammed Ampambilla, National President, and Majid Amidu, National Secretary.
