We Can’t Be Proud Of Roads In Ghana – Deputy Minister

The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency, Mr. George Mireku Duker, has admitted that no Ghanaian should be proud of roads in the country.

Mr Duker, who is also the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources said despite the efforts by the successive and the ruling government to improve on the road sector, there is still more room for improvements.

He made the observations in an interview on 3FM’s Sunrise hosted by Alfred Ocansay on Thursday.

“I wouldn’t be proud of our roads. No. But we shouldn’t behave as if the successive government committed a lot on roads but this government is not committing much on roads”, he explained.

He said “the President was in my constituency to cut sod for Agona-Nkwanta road which during the Rawlings era, it took about 4hours from Tarkwa to Takoradi”.

Mr. Duker noted that “Kufour came and it was constructed but deteriorated but thankfully, Nana Addo has cut the sod for the construction”.

He added that “some contractors have been duly paid and others would be paid but the constraints and the challenges are there and you know them.

“Nsuaem, Dompem, Tarkwa town roads had not seen any tarred but now the contractor is on site. They are doing the drains. We had about 30% or our roads motorable and now we have about 50% or roads. If we are able to do 50%, we would be proud off but we have a back lock of roads”.
