Video: Togbe Sri III Bids Farewell To Asantehene After Hogbetsotso 2022

The Asante Monarch, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II graced the occassion of the 2022 Hogbetsotso as the Special guest of honor under the auspices of the King of Anlo, Togbe Sri III who sat in state at the colorful durbar with his sub and divisional chiefs, including the Awadada of Anlo State.

The beautiful event which also saw the attendance of the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru and a representative of the Kwahumanhene brought together citizens of Anlo from home and abroad.

Delivering a speech as guest of honor, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II recounted the genesis of Asante-Anlo relations which dates back to the 19th century during the reign of Asantehene Kwaku Dua, when a tripartite alliance was formed by Asante, Akwamu and Anlo against common enemies.

The Asantehene continued that this relationship was further strengthened during the reign of Asantehene Kofi Karikari, during whose reign, Anlos were given a vast land to settle in Kumasi, a place which they were allowed to name ‘Anloga’ after their original home in the Volta Region.

Otumfuor also dispelled the unfortunate attempts to create an artificial enmity between Asantes and Ewes, particularly Anlos by recounting the massive support given to Komla Agbeli Gbedema when he sought to lead the country after the overthrow of Nkrumah.

In fact, the Asantehene reminded the gathering that when Gbedema formed his Party, the National Alliance of Liberals, it was his (Otumfuor’s) own brother, son of the then Asantehemaa Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko who accepted to be his (Gbedemah’s) Chairman.

The Asante Monarch, therefore, called for the relationship between the two Kingdoms to be sustained and not be allowed to deteriorate by the machinations of Politicians.

In a video sighted by this portal, Togbe Sri is seen in a walk with the Asantehene as the latter walks towards his car after the close of the durbar.
