There’s No Reason for Reshuffle; My Appointees Doing Very Well

President Akufo-Addo says his appointees have met his expectations therefore he has no plans to reshuffle them.

According to a report by pakmediagh, the president said calls for a ministerial reshuffle are coming from the camp of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who are much interested in destabilising his government.

He also says people who are looking for jobs are behind the intense call for reshuffling.

“The calls come for all kinds of reasons; NDC wanting to destabilise the government is one. There are people who are also looking for jobs.”

President Akufo-Addo said “many of them for me have done outstanding work. Their output has been considerable, and that is what I look at. If the output measures expectations, then I don’t have any strong reasons to heed the call.”

President Akufo-Addo in his second term has been urged to reshuffle his appointees to make his government effective.

Political Scientist, Prof Ransford Gyampo in a write-up said the President’s inabilty to do that is denying the country of fine brains that can drive its development.

“The President’s inability to undertake a major reshuffle of his ministers has palpably denied Ghana of the brains, talents and expertise that could have been tapped for national development. Are these the only Men? This precedent isn’t worth emulating!” Prof Gyampo wrote.

He is not the only one. Governance expert, Dr. Isaac Yamoah, also said the government of Akufo-Addo is getting worse and an urgent reshuffle will suffice, if not the woes of the country wouldn’t get better and that will affect the fortunes of the party.

He said “reshuffling is a tool that you should always use as a leader and President, to realign all those within your governance structure- you should always realign your Ministers, deputies and appointees towards your duty of improving the livelihood of the populace in terms of your infrastructure, job creation, health, security, rural development, local governance among others and that is why I have always said that your excellency, if you don’t do reshuffle your problem is getting worse and worse”.

“If you don’t avail yourself to change, then change changes you. Something in the chain of progress is working against the presidency and President Akufo-Addo. Therefore he has to make changes in order to catch up with time”, he added.

He stressed that the President must make changes because all appointees within the governance structure were given an appointment with some enthusiasm and euphoria but this fades away with time hence the need for a reshuffle.

“Familiarity breeds contempt and some appointees are even forming gangs within the party and that if he(President Akufo-Addo) doesn’t reshuffle his appointees, NPP will go into opposition”, he concluded.
