There’s No Corruption Under Akufo-Addo – Methodist Bishop Claims

Despite the numerous corruption scandals that have rocked the Akufo Addo administration in the past six years, Bishop Stephen Richard Bosomtwe Ayensu of the Methodist Church claimed that there is no evidence of corruption under the government.

The openly partisan clergyman made his biases obvious when he reportedly claim that despite the reports of corruption in the Akufo Addo administration, the former President, John Mahama who is tipped to become the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), will never return to power again.

In an interview reported in the media, the clergyman claims the reason the clergy is virtually tongue-tied over corruption allegations under Akufo-Addo even though it was very vocal over corruption during the Mahama era, is because in the previous era corruption was exposed but in this era, it is not being exposed.

He said: ”…We had evidence to support the debate on corruption and so we were bold in talking about it. Who can tell me there is no corruption in Ghana? I will not agree with such arguments. I would never dispute that there is no corruption today, but where is the evidence to support such allegations?”

He claimed that the media is supposed to expose corruption and the media has not been doing it and that it is not the responsibility of the clergy to expose corruption.

“That is not how it is done. You need evidence to support such claims,” he posited.
