A suspect involved in the murder of the late Professor Yaw Benneh, a University of Ghana law lecturer has confessed to being the mastermind of the act.
James Womba, employed as a cleaner in the late professor’s house confessed to the police that he together with his accomplices sought to rob the lecturer, however, his refusal to succumb to their demands and attempt to blow alarm caused them to hit him with an iron and gagged him, causing his death.
James Womba further told the police that he gained access to the Professor’s room because he had a spare key which he had kept unknowingly.
They bolted away with GHC450 in Prof Benneh’s wallet and his mobile phone. For fear of being recorded, James Womba and his accomplice took a Central Processing Unit attached to a computer in the room and dumped it into a septic tank in the compound.
The Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Isaac Ken Yeboah, made this known to the media on October 2, 2020.
