Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has announced that Ghanaians should brace themselves for a very dramatic event as he plans to cause a stir in the countries political space.
Nana Obiri Boahen says as he has made history as a two term deputy general secretary for the NPP, he is again going to make history in the party’s flagbearership race as he plans to bring someone to occupy the seat.
In view of this, the deputy general secretary who eyed to the General Secretary position of the party in times past says he is sacrificing his own ambitions in order to ensure that the person he brings becomes the party’s next flagbearer.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Okay FM on Thursday which was monitored by ABC News, a very confident Obiri Boahen said, “I won’t contest the General Secretary position again. I am going to install someone on the flagbearer seat. I am beating my chest. I’m going to make history in this country. I, Obiri Boahen, I’m going to make history in this country. This history is that, I have been a deputy general secretary for two terms which is unprecedented in Ghana. I won’t go again because of the stance I’m taking now. I am going to put someone on the seat as the flagbearer. That’s the history I’m about to make.”
“We will go to primaries definitely and from all indications that person I’m bringing will win. And when that person wins, it will also be history also. History for our tradition,” he emphasized.
Asked about who this person is, the lawyer and politician said because he is an officer of the party and the per the party’s rules and regulations, since nominations have not been opened he can’t mention the person’s name and campaign for him.
He however gave a vivid description of the person he has vowed and sacrificed his ambition in order to make him the flagbearer of the NPP.
“The NPP has not started campaigning so I can’t campaign. But that fortunate character comes from the northern part of Ghana. He is well-known in this country. He is a Mamprusi,” he stressed.
According Nana Obiri Boahen, he has served his party at various fronts since the inception of the NPP in 1992 and therefore he is very confident and sure about his choice of flagbearer for the party ahead of the 2024 Presidential Elections.
