Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin has charged Members of Parliament to psyche their minds and body for the task ahead as Parliament resumes sitting.
Addressing the house on Tuesday May 25, 2021 after the house had gone on a 24-day break, he urged the lawmakers to adhere strictly to the rules of the house; adding that he won’t hesitate to crack the whip should someone fall foul to the law.
He further appealed to them to be more committed to the business of the house and use their experience gathered from their various constituencies during the break to work in the interest of the Ghanaian people.
Hon. Members, the honeymoon period is over. We are in a transitional period now, and we will start enforcing the rules. From experience, I know these recesses are not only very special but healthy periods of an MP’s life. These are not signatory moments but rather mobile Johnny Walker season where MPs visit constituents.”
“I hope your visit to the communities and people has exposed you a lot more to the realities of the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian and has, thus, humbled and prepared you to better represent the interest of the people and the nation in the House,” Hon Bagbin added.
