Teachers ‘UP In Arms’ As Gov’t Chases Them For Rent, Accumulated Arrears

Some Ghanaian Teachers have expressed disgust at government for serving notice of its intention to charge a percentage of the salaries of teachers and staff who occupy government bungalows as rent.

Apparently, this had been a directive which was issued by the Finance Ministry as far back as 2016 and has suddenly been brought to the fore again.

In a letter issued by the Ghana Education Service, which has since gone viral, all such teachers and staff occupying these bungalows are expected to pay 10% of their basic salaries as rent.

The letter, therefore, cautioned Teachers to ensure to settle their rent and all outstanding arrears to avoid any audit issues.

Meanwhile, Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuku has wondered if this directive also applies to politicians occupying government bungalows.
