The Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori-panin has advised government to consider suspending mining for at least one year.
According to the revered traditional ruler, this is necessary until the government can put in place the necessary arrangements to regulate the legal regime of the sector.
The Okyehene also called for the separation of the Minerals Commission from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in order to allow it to function adequately.
The Okyenhene stated this when the sector Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, paid a courtesy call on him on Thursday, May 27 as part of his two-day tour of the Eastern Region.
