Suspect Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing Of O’Reilly Senior High School Student
A suspect has been arrested in connection with the tragic stabbing of Edward Borketey Sackey, an 18-year-old final-year student at O’Reilly Senior High School, who died on Monday, September 2, following an altercation with a classmate.
The incident occurred on campus shortly after Edward, a General Arts student, had finished writing an exam. A fight broke out between Edward and Godwin, a student from the Visual Arts Department, reportedly over a dispute about who was wealthier. According to witnesses, the argument escalated quickly, leading to Godwin stabbing Edward three times in the chest.
Edward’s cousin recounted the events, saying, “We heard some noise at the back and asked what’s wrong, and they said it’s Godwin and Edward fighting. I asked what’s the fight about, and they said it was nothing serious.” However, the altercation took a deadly turn, resulting in Edward’s death.
The family of the deceased is now demanding justice, accusing the school of negligence. Edward’s father, Enoch Sackey, expressed his frustration, stating that his niece had called him earlier that day to alert him about the fight. He criticized the school’s teachers for failing to intervene effectively. “We want answers from the school authority, the parents of the boy, and the police. What happened that led to a student stabbing his friend? That’s all we want. We want justice,” he said.
In response to the incident, Enoch Sackey and other family members, dressed in red and black attire, picketed the school on Tuesday to voice their displeasure. They also expressed concern that neither the school administration, the attacker’s family, nor the police had contacted them about the incident.
Adding to the family’s frustration, Mr. Sackey noted that the school had brought in police officers to block access to the campus, preventing the family from entering. “They have brought policemen to block every gate to stop us from going in,” he added.
The tragic incident has sparked a call for accountability, with the family seeking answers and justice for the loss of their son.
