Stop Using Parliament As Boxing Ring – House of Chiefs to MPs

The National House of Chiefs has called on Members of Parliament to desist from the use of violence in dealing with matters in the House.

The call comes on the back of recent physical exchanges between members of the two sides of the House over the controversial E-levy.

President of the House, Ogyeahohuo Yaw Gyebi II who made the call during the last House of Chiefs Meeting for the year 2021 said that the actions of Parliament affects all Ghanaians.

He said Parliamentarians must live by their name as honorable members devoid of fighting each other.

“I will want to use this platform to tell our Honorable Members from both sides of the House to exercise restraint and resort to dialogue on the broad national interest in order to arrive at a consensus. It is just unfortunate that in recent times our Parliamentarians have decided to exchange blows on the floor of the House.

“These things do not only affect the Parliamentarians but it affects Nananoms and the good people of this country. So we are appealing to them to exercise restraint because we believe they are responsible people that is why we call them honorable. They should always dialogue instead of turning the house into a boxing arena,” he stated.
