Stop Blaming Me For Your Failures And Start Engaging – Alban Bagbin To Majority

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has charged the majority in Parliament to engage in discussion and reach out to the minority in order to avoid the acrimony that marked the previous sessions of parliament.

The majority has blamed the speaker for the failure to pass the E-Levy before the House adjourned last month.

However, Bagbin remarked at a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association workshop that the acrimony that resulted in a scuffle was caused by both sides’ determination to marshal their numbers instead of reaching a compromise, not by the acts of the speaker.

“The only solution is for the two sides to discuss and talk with one other, to cooperate, compromise, and collaborate to create consensus; this is a necessity put on us by the Ghanaian people; we have no choice.”

“So, if the other party fails to amass a sufficient number of votes and a decision is rendered in their favor, the Speaker cannot be blamed… In Ghana, I am not a member of parliament.”
