The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), Accra, has released a detailed medical report regarding the condition of Erald Salifu Amoako, son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, who was admitted on October 12, 2024, after sustaining severe injuries. The report, signed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Fred Salawu, outlines the treatment Amoako has received and provides insights into his current status and recovery.

Incident and Initial Treatment

Erald made the news for all the wrong reasons when his reckless driving on a residential street in East Legon resulted in a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two young girls and caused severe injuries to others.

Erald Amoako was initially treated at Legon Hospital for complex injuries resulting from the incident. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to UGMC for advanced care.

Medical Findings and Surgical Interventions

Upon his admission to UGMC, Amoako is documented to have presented an open right ankle dislocation and significant facial lacerations. Emergency surgery was conducted on October 14, 2024, with Dr. Salawu overseeing procedures that included wound debridement, external fixation of the injured ankle, and a flap cover to address tissue damage.

During surgery, doctors identified a severe dislocation of the right ankle joint, classified as Gastillo III B, along with torn ligaments, specifically the anterior and posterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments, which contributed to an unstable joint condition.

In addition to these primary interventions, a split skin graft was performed on October 21, 2024, to treat a post-traumatic ulcer on his right leg.

Current Condition and Recovery Plan

The report confirms that Amoako is currently mobilizing with a non-weight-bearing restriction on his right leg. After undergoing extensive treatment, he was discharged on October 28, 2024, and will continue his recovery through outpatient care. Given his condition, the medical team has deemed him presently unfit for police interrogation, a fact explicitly noted in the report.

Dr. Salawu affirmed that UGMC will maintain open communication with relevant authorities regarding Amoako’s recovery status. Once his treatment concludes and he is deemed medically fit, authorities will be notified accordingly.
