Sacked For Fraudulent Behavior – Court Admits Jakpa’s Dismissal Letter Into Evidence

In a significant development during the infamous ambulance trial, the court has received detailed accounts regarding the dismissal of Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the case, from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). Official documents submitted as evidence reveal that Jakpa was dismissed due to inadequate performance, consistent fraudulent behavior, and overall unsatisfactory conduct.

Richard Jakpa was commissioned into the Armour Corps as a Regular Officer on August 21, 1998. Despite expectations to advance to the rank of Captain by 2002 and Major by 2007, he consistently failed to meet the required standards, lagging behind his peers in rank progression. His tenure with the GAF was marked by repeated instances of fraudulent conduct, abrasiveness, and a general lack of discipline.

Furthermore, Jakpa accrued substantial debts to various individuals and institutions during his service. Notably, he owed the Recce Regiment PRI $300, which he was unable to settle without authorized salary deductions. His Commanding Officers’ reports consistently highlighted his unsuitability for continued service, citing his detrimental impact on both the institution and himself. A special report submitted in May 2004 indicated that Jakpa had reached his limit, describing his conduct as shameful and regrettable.

Given his track record and the potential risks associated with his further retention in the Armed Forces, the GAF decided to dismiss Jakpa immediately. The directive for his dismissal, based on unsatisfactory conduct as per the Armed Forces Regulations, Volume 1 (Admin), aimed to protect the integrity of the armed services and ensure discipline within the ranks.
