Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Ghana’s Deputy Energy Minister, has urged Ghanaians to support the e- levy.
According to him, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is well-off, is not in government to collect fortune or to utilize Ghanaians’ money for his own gain.
Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, addressing to a group of people, urged them to persuade their Members of Parliament to support the government in passing the e-levy so that the country can get the progress it needs.
“Tell your Members of Parliament to assist this government in passing this levy, Ladies and Gentlemen.” Inform them that Nana Akufo-Addo did not come to use Ghana’s money for his own benefit.
He came to use Ghana’s money to develop Ghana for Ghanaians, and that is precisely how he is spending our money, and that is exactly how he would use the e-levy once it is passed and collected. He would account for every cedi he collects from Ghanaians and what he has done with it. You can rely on this President.”
The government’s introduction of the E-levy in its 2022 budget has been received with scorn.
Some Ghanaians believe it is thievery and have pledged never to pay or agree to allow the government to carry it through Parliament.
The majority in Parliament has also struggled to secure the necessary votes to adopt the charge, which they say will increase revenue for Ghana.
