The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Richard Asante, has asked the Tamale Central MP, Hon Ibrahim Muntalla Mohamed, to retract what he described as an unwise statement made by the MP against the Majority Leader.
According to him, for Hon Muntalla to say Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, was selling spare parts, when the Speaker was studying law, is derogatory.
Speaking to the media, Mr Asante, disclosed that though Hon Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is not a lawyer, he teaches most MPs, including the lawyers in the parliament on constitutional law and its application on parliamentary proceedings.
According to the Vice Chairman, the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, who is a lawyer, made an incorrect directive on Hon Adwoa Safo’s case which is also constitutionally unacceptable.
He disclosed that the Speaker on the voting right of the Deputy Speaker, had it wrong by attempting to prevent Hon Joseph Osei Wusu, MP for Bekwai from voting in the house.
According to him, the Speaker refused to heed the advice from the Majority Leader, which was subsequently affirmed by the Supreme Court.
The Majority Leader, he said, is abreast with the constitution and the parliamentary procedure and therefore has the right to coach the Speaker on constitutional matters when he gets it wrong.
