A communications team member of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP), Freda Prempeh Agyemang, has asked the embattled Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to resign if she is incapacitated to serve her constituents as their MP and also to resume her ministerial position as the Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Mrs. Prempeh Agyemang said Adwoa Safo cannot hold the government’s agenda to ransom with what she described as a flimsy excuse.
Reacting to the hauling of three Members of Parliament to the privileges committee of Parliament for continuous absenteeism without permission on the MOVEMENT IN THE MORNING political show, she noted that the other two members may be able to justify their absence however, in the case of Adwoa Safo, there’s no justification.
“You should just call the president and tell him that you can no longer do the job. There are many capable women who can occupy your ministerial position. You cannot be holding the ministry to ransom”, she said.
She was quick to add that the caretaker for the Gender Ministry who is the substantive minister for Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Abena Dapaah has a lot to deal with in her ministry therefore cannot be burdened with the duties of Adwoa Safo, hence the need for her to resign if she’s incapacitated to continue so that someone else could take over.
She further expressed her disappointment over the conduct of the Dome-Kwabenya MP, as she least expected her to do what she’s doing.
“Adwoa Safo has really disappointed the few of us who had to break our back to campaign vigorously for her to be elected as the Dome-Kwabenya MP”, she revealed.
In explaining why she describes the excuse given by Sarah Adwoa Safo as flimsy, Freda noted that the seven women including her who had to campaign to ensure Adwoa Safo is elected had children too. Adding that but for the sake of Adwoa Safo they had to leave their children to campaign for her both day and night.
“How then do you travel overseas for close to a year with the excuse that your son is sick abandoning your Ministry and constituents”, she asked.
“Adwoa Safo knows the right thing to do and I’m not the one to tell the president to ‘fire’ her”, she added.
She stressed that the sanitation ministry alone is too huge for Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah to be coupled with the Gender Ministry.
