Former Minister for Youth and Sports, and one of Ghana’s long serving MP’s, ET Mensah has said that the late NDC founder Jerry John Rawlings drew closer to President Akufo-Addo because of the respect the President accorded him.
Late former President, in his later years until his demise, became very close to President Akufo-Addo even though they were from opposing sides of the political divide.
Many Ghanaians have expressed surprise at the seeming closeness and harmony that existed between the two, who at a point in time did not see eye to eye in their respective political journeys.
However, speaking on Accra-based Adom FM, former MP for Ningo Prampram, ET Mensah said that the late NDC founder drew closer to President Akufo-Addo because the President took his advice seriously.
“I wasn’t shocked by their relationship. Everyone knows a good thing and for Rawlings if he advises you and you listen he like you. Nana Addo also acknowledged that he is the founder of the fourth republic. All the things we do here from Transition to District Assembly was geared towards building a democracy that will stand the test of time and he was in the driving seat.” He said.
