Put The Name Of The Church In Your Will So That We Will Remember You Even After You Die – Methodist Bishop Tells Congregants
The Bishop of the Northern Accra Diocese (NAD) of the Methodist Church Ghana, Right Reverend Professor Joseph M.Y. Edusa-Eyison, has urged Christians, particularly members of the Methodist church, to support the work of God through property donations. Speaking during a sermon at the Immanuel Methodist Society at the Airport East Circuit, Rt Rev. Edusa-Eyison emphasized the importance of sustaining the church’s mission by encouraging members to allocate portions of their property in their wills to the church.
He stressed that such acts of generosity would be remembered and cherished long after the donors have passed. This sermon was part of his final pastoral visit to the Circuit as he prepares to retire in September, concluding his six-year tenure as Bishop of the Northern Accra Diocese.
During this visit, Rt Rev. Edusa-Eyison also laid the foundation stone for a new GH¢18.5 million multi-purpose Chapel for the Immanuel Methodist Society. The Society, established in 1994 after splitting from the Calvary Methodist Church at Adabraka, Accra, has undergone significant development, moving to its current location at the Regimanuel Gray Estate, off the Spintex road.
The Bishop called on the congregation to continue their evangelism and discipleship efforts, especially focusing on the youth, who represent the future of the Church. He expressed his gratitude for the support and cooperation he received from the Airport East Circuit during his administration and urged them to extend the same dedication to his successor, Very Rev. Andrew Mbeah-Baiden, and the incoming Lay Chairman, Dr. Senyo Adjei.
Very Rev. Dr. Jacob W. French, the Superintendent Minister of the Airport East Circuit, praised Rt Rev. Edusa-Eyison for his exemplary leadership and contributions as the Diocese’s first Bishop, guiding it towards becoming a model for other dioceses.
Kwesi Abbey Sam, Chairman of the Building Committee of the Immanuel Methodist Society, reported that about 55 percent of the work on the first phase of the 1,500-seater complex has been completed since its launch in July 2023. The project, expected to be finished by July 2025, includes an underground basement with parking for 30 cars, a church hall, choir vestry, various offices, a sound control/media room, and practice rooms for the choir and singing band. The first phase of the construction is estimated at GH¢6,739,000.00.
Committee member Godfrey Ewool added that the new building will significantly enhance the church’s capacity to serve its congregation and community, reflecting the commitment of the Immanuel Methodist Society to growth and development.
