The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAOG) has threatened to withdraw National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) services if government refuses to pay a nine month deferred claims to all its members.
They accused the Ministries of health and finance of unfair treatment to its members and gave two weeks ultimatum for the claims to be settled.
Speaking on Onua Fm’s Yensempa, President of PHFAOG Boakye Donkor, said the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) deceived President Akuffo Addo that they’ve made payments of NHIS arrears to health workers.
“The people who give information to President Akufo-Addo don’t give him the right information, they are misleading him, and the President has to be careful about that”.
“How could the leadership of NHIA blatantly lie to president Akufo-Addo that government owe only three months of NHIS arrears to private health facilities,” he queried.
Mr Boakye said the situation is draining health facilities as they’re unable to purchase Personal Protective Equipments (PPE’s) amidst the Coronavirus.
He noted that most private health facilities are running on loans at cut throat interest rates which is draining their activities because of government’s inability to pay NHIS debts on time.
He quizzed why government would use its agency, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), to drag health providers to court for non payment of contributions of staff while they still owe them.
He therefore called on government as a matter of urgency to pay all NHIS debts owed else they would be forced to resort to the cash and carry system in two weeks.
