Prioritize Agriculture To Reduce Overreliance On Other Countries For Food- Ishmael Adams Urges Ghanaians

A member of the NPP communications team, Ishmael Adams, has urged Ghanaians to make agriculture a priority to promote food security in the country.

He however emphasized that all government appointees including Ministers, Chief Executive Officers of State Institutions,  Municipal Metropolitan  or District Chief Executive, (MMDCEs) among others should own at least 4 acres of farm land.

Throwing more light on the advantages of farming on Movement In The Morning Political Show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV, he explained that when given the required attention more food and animal products would be locally produced, reducing the country’s overreliance on other countries for animal and poultry products and other food items.

“Let’s all contribute to agriculture. It should start with the Ministers and must be followed by the CEOs. At least four-acre of farmland each,” he advised.

Adding that, “only a few farmers are feeding a country with a population of 30.8millions citizens. Hence making it difficult to reach the demand against the supply; but if we all put our hands on deck, it will help reduce the pressure.” he advised.

In furtherance he lamented over post-harvest losses which is as a result of bad roads. According to him, most farmers are unable to transport their food crops after harvest due to the nature of their roads.

He urged the government to ensure such roads are fixed.

“If that is not done, we will continue to import foods into the country which are not the best”, he added.
