Presidency Responds To Petition To Remove EC Chair From Office

The petition filed by pressure group Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has been summarily dismissed by the Presidency.

The response to the petition is said to have been forwarded to the Facebook page of ASEPA’s Executive Director, Mensah Thompson, on Thursday, August 13.

ASEPA had petitioned Jubilee House on June 9, 2020 for the removal of the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), Jean Mensa, for failing to declare her assets in accordance with Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution.

The pressure group after weeks of waiting with no response wrote to the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah, seeking to know whether the Presidency has forwarded the petition to his outfit for action.

On Monday, August 10, the Judicial Secretary, Justice Cynthia Pamela Addo, wrote back to ASEPA confirming receipt of the petition and the action taken thereof.

“I am directed by His Lordship the Chief Justice to inform you that he acted on the petition and submitted his response to the Presidency on 15th July, 2020.”

On Thursday, the Presidency in a letter signed by Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, threw away the petition.

“I am directed by the President to inform you that your petition has been dismissed.”
