Police Stops Group From Picketing At EC Headquarters Over Voter Discrepancies

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has halted planned protests by a group of lawyers at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission (EC).

The Police through a court injunction stopped the group of 35 lawyers who had intended to march to the headquarters of the EC in protest against what they describe as issues of fairness and credibility affecting the December 2020 general elections.

According to Spokesperson for the group, Victor Kojogah Adawudu who spoke on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, the Police said there was a ban on large gatherings, the EC premises was a security zone and the ongoing secessionists insurgency in the Volta Region has left them short of men.

Mr. Adawudu however didn’t agree with the security services, stating that there have been a lot of public gatherings even in the midst of these restrictions amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic adding that the group will still proceed with its planned action after the expiration of the 10-day injunction.
