The Economic Fighters League have expressed their displeasure over former Deputy Trade Minister, Carlos Ahenkorah being left off the hook by the Police after abandoning isolation to visit registration centres whilst Covid-19 positive.
Fighter general of the group, Hardi Yakubu in an interview on Citi News referenced the arrest of the group leader, Ernesto Yeboah after the Black Lives matter vigil at the Independence Square.
Ernesto Yeboah was arrested by a joint military-police force for allegedly failing to comply to Covid-19 protocols during the vigil. He was later bailed at a sum of GHS100,000.
For this reason, Hardi Yakubu demands same for the Tema West Member of Parliament, Mr Ahenkorah as he bemoans that the law in Ghana only deals with the lower class while the upper class are always left off the hook.
“The resignation is not enough. Why is somebody who has knowingly gone with a positive case to a pubic place being left off the hook? We showed picture and video evidence showing clearly that we [EFL] indeed complied with the COVID-19 protocols but that didn’t prevent them from still sending Ernesto Yeboah to court. Clearly, this vindicates our position that the law in Ghana punishes people who are in the lower class while the upper-class people are able to flip the law without being held accountable for their criminal actions,” he stated.
