The Ghana Police Service has cautioned persons demanding that dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale is freed from custody.
Shatta has been arrested together with three others for faking a gunshot attack. He has today October 21, 2021 been remanded to be in custody for one more week.
There have since been online protests by some sympathisers and loyalists of the dancehall artiste demanding that he is freed.
Speaking on Rainbow radio, Alexander Obeng, Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service said it would be unfair for such advocacy to be led for a person who violated the laws of Ghana.
That being the case, he said, same should be done for armed robbers, fraudsters and other persons who have broken the law and arrested.
“Yesterday, the Police arrested a notorious armed robber at Adeiso in the Eastern Region, people should hashtag and demand him to be freed. The one who stole cocoyam from a farm and was arrested, why are people not asking for him to be freed? Why are people not asking for fraudsters to be freed? We must allow the Criminal Code to dictate the pace and stop this unnecessary campaign,” he said.
