The Ghana Police Service has declared Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as Commander Kanawu, wanted for threatening remarks made against high-profile government officials. In a statement issued by the police, a reward of GHS50,000 has been announced for anyone who provides credible information leading to his arrest.

The suspect, a known supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently appeared in a video where he accused Interior Minister Henry Quartey and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare of orchestrating unlawful recruitment into the police service. He alleged that this recruitment scheme was intended to manipulate the upcoming 2024 elections in favor of certain interests.

In the video, Commander Kanawu issued violent threats against several public officials, including the IGP, the Interior Minister, and the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Jean Mensa. He expressed his readiness to resort to extreme measures, including the use of firearms, against these individuals. Furthermore, he ominously declared that the 2024 election would be marked by the slogan “All Die Be Die,” a phrase with historical political connotations in Ghana, suggesting potential electoral violence.

The police have urged the public to remain calm and report any information that may assist in the arrest of Commander Kanawu. Authorities emphasized the seriousness of the threats and the commitment to maintaining public safety ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Commander Kanawu, in his remarks, also taunted law enforcement, daring them to attempt his arrest, further intensifying concerns about the potential escalation of politically motivated unrest.

This incident comes at a sensitive time as Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, with heightened political tensions. The police have reiterated their commitment to upholding peace and order during the electoral process.
