Police Arrests NDC Supporter Who Threatened To Kill Officials
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Ibrahim Mohammed, also known as Commander Kanawu, who was declared wanted after issuing violent threats against high-profile government officials. His arrest took place today, September 11, 2024, two days after the police placed a GHS50,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
In a viral video, Commander Kanawu, a known supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accused the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, of engaging in unlawful recruitment into the police service to influence the 2024 elections.
He also threatened to shoot and harm several public officials, including the IGP, the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, and other key figures, while declaring that the 2024 election would be a period of violence under the slogan “All Die Be Die.”
Following an intensive manhunt, the police successfully apprehended Mohammed, who is currently in custody. Authorities have assured the public that he will be processed according to the law.
The police expressed their appreciation for the public’s cooperation in helping secure his arrest and reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and order ahead of the 2024 general elections.
This development follows growing concerns over politically motivated violence as the nation prepares for the upcoming elections. The police have assured the public that they will take decisive action against anyone attempting to destabilize the electoral process or threaten public officials.
