At least 21 suspected foreigners were arrested during an intelligence-led operation at Akokoamong in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
They were rounded up in a five-bedroom house after residents raised an alarm earlier this week.
The arrest followed a tip off by some community members in the area who noticed the abnormal behaviour of the foreign nationals in the area.
According to the community members, they observed the “suspicious activities” of the foreign nationals for months and therefore decided to report them to the police for further investigations.
The Assemblyman for Akokoamong, Daniel Owusu, in an interview with Jonathan Ofori said, “They (Immigrants) claim they are running a school here. But when we entered the place there was no sign of a school. They are just keeping people (illegal immigrants) here.”
“ We previously arrested some Cameroonians but we were not sure the exact building they were staying in, and by the grace of God we the committee members went round for a search and found them.”
“The landlord should have informed me that someone has taken the land for a school. But he didn’t inform either the Assembyman or chiefs in the town.”
“ Even this morning, we had to use a saw to open the gates before we entered and found them here.”
