The People’s National Convention (PNC) has officially endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the run-up to the December 2024 general elections. The decision was announced by PNC National Chairman, Samson Asaki Awingobit, during a press conference held in Accra on Wednesday, November 27.

Following extensive consultations with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Functional Executive Committee (FEC), the PNC resolved to back the NDC’s presidential candidate, citing the party’s absence of a presidential contender in this election cycle.

“With just nine days to the general elections, and the PNC not fielding a presidential candidate, we cannot remain neutral,” Mr. Awingobit stated. “As National Chairman, in consultation with the party’s leadership, we convened a meeting of NEC, including regional representatives and FEC members. After thorough deliberations, the majority agreed to throw the PNC’s support behind the NDC presidential candidate for the 2024 general election.”

He further explained that this endorsement aligns with the PNC’s vision of fostering collaboration with the next government, expressing optimism about a strong partnership with an NDC-led administration.

“We are supporting the NDC to ensure a cooperative relationship between the PNC and the incoming government,” Mr. Awingobit added.

This decision marks a significant alignment between the two parties, potentially influencing voter dynamics as the country prepares for the polls. While the PNC has not fielded a presidential candidate, its endorsement could bolster the NDC’s efforts to secure victory in what is expected to be a closely contested election.
