Veteran Ghanaian actress Adwoa Smart has revealed certain details about her personal life, and she is hoping that Ghanaians will help her realize her long-held desire of buying a home.

Belinda Naa Ode Oku, better known by her stage as Adwoa Smart, has been performing in films for so long that she has become a part of the Creative Arts industry’s history. Adowa Smart recounted her difficult past in an interview with Accra FM, as well as how she continues to suffer years after being renowned.

“I’ve gone through a lot, especially since I was a child. I’ve been through a lot in my life. I was raised as an only child… My older brother passed away before I even met him… My grandmother was the one who looked after me. My aunt (may her soul rest in peace) then came to see me and invited me to live with her. Then Mom set me up with a trading firm, and I went around town hawking.

Auntie Rose was a woman I met through this business (may she rest in peace). At the Kaneshie market, she sold oranges. She thought I was intriguing. So she’d take me to Maame Dokono’s house (Grave Omaboe). She invited me to dance during the tryouts. “As soon as I did, she took to me and said she would adopt me as her daughter,” she recalled, her eyes welling up with tears.

Adwoa Smart responded that she would love to purchase a house when asked what Ghanaians should do for her. She stated that she wishes to assist individuals who are homeless, but that her room in her family’s home will not be able to accommodate them. She also revealed that all of her travels were paid for, and she is not as at ease as many people believe.

“To be honest, living in a family home is difficult… I had a child, but it died shortly after birth. As a result, I do not have any children. I do not have a spouse. I don’t have a home of my own. I am alive, not dead, thanks to God’s grace.

The desire to possess a home is very strong in my heart. So that I can see a profit from all of my efforts. I couldn’t say anything because I was embarrassed… I’m looking for a home. If I obtain a house, I’ll be able to assist someone.”
