Over 1,000 KNUST Students To Defer Course Over Fees

More than thousand (1000) students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will have to defer their courses for nonpayment of tuition fees.

The deadline for the payment of fees was extended from March 24, 2022 to April 7, 2022, but some students have still not been able to pay their fees.

The KNUST Student Representative Council (SRC) President, Michael Abuah in interview with Starr News disclosed that the SRC has pleaded with the Institution’s Management for another extension date.

“The SRC has engaged management about a second extension. But this is somehow very difficult because a grace period from the 24th of March was extended to April 7, 2022.

“We’ve taken the numbers and there is evidence to show that there’s a huge chunk of students who still haven’t pay and their position seems to be a very difficult one,” he disclosed.

He also said that the SRC has disbursed some amount of money to some 2,380 students for the payment of their fees.

“The SRC has been able to accelerate the disbursement of KBN with the KNUST Bursary with soft loans of some monies that was directly paid into students account so that they will be able to pay their school fees and not pay back.

“Aside the 2,380 students, the SRC is also paying the school fees of a huge chunk of other students and that’s part of the measures put in place. But while these things are being done, the SRC is still on some other advocacy,” he added.

Mr. Abuah suggested that there should be a conversation with the institution’s management to draw up a plan in order to prevent students from deferring their courses.

Meanwhile, KNUST is expected to begin its Mid-Semester Exams on Monday, April 11, 2022, and break for the Easter Holidays from Thursday, April 14, 2022, to Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
