The Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II has destooled the Nkonsonhene Nana Osei Tiri II over charges of neglection of stool duties, gross disregard for the Asantehene’s directives, and using of land guards, among others.
In a very straightforward ruling at Manhyia yesterday, Otumfuor chastized his childhood friend, whom he accused of “growing horns” because of their long history of friendship.
Nana Osei Tiri II, the Nkonsonhene disregarded a direct ruling from the Asantehene concerning a contentious piece of land at Aduamoa, when he caused a wall to be erected around portions of the land contrary to the Asantehene’s directive.
The Asantehene had directed that until he had given a ruling on the said piece of land, both parties to the dispute were barred from setting foot on that land, a directive which was flagrantly abused by the Nkonsonhene.
When confronted by family members from the other party to the dispute, the Nkonsonhene is said to have unleashed land guards who inflicted severe wounds on the other party, one of whom is currently in critical condition.
The Nkonsonhene is also accused of abandoning his duties of performing customary rites at his stool room at Kotei.
Otumfuor Osei Tutu after delivering his judgement also demonstrated magnanimity by promising to take care of his childhood friend until his death.
Nana Osei Tiri II becomes the second chief to be destooled by the Asantehene in two weeks, after the chief of Bekwai Abodom was also destooled last week.
