Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu Shares Horror Story Of How Anyidoho’s Driver Beat Him With The Butt Of His Gun

The Majority leader and leader of government business in Parliament, Honorable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has recounted a bitter experience he encountered during the 2000 election campaign.

In an interview with Okay Fm, the Suame MP revealed that while he was conducting election monitoring during the period, an unfortunate incident ensued in which he was beaten with the butt of a gun by a driver of Major General (rtd) Henry Kwame Anyidoho.

According to the honorable majority leader, he had received info that a certain individual was illegally transporting ballot papers to some polling stations.

Mr Mensah Bonsu narrated that at the time he was in the company of a female photo journalist when the said individual was apprehended.

The photo journalist, according to the Majority leader, took a photo of the apprehended individual and the black polythene bag containing ballot papers, but this did not sit down well with the driver of General Anyidoho, one Seargent Alhassan.

According to Honorable Mensah Bonsu, Seargent Alhassan confiscated the camera of the photo journalist and dismantled it in their presence.

In an attempt to understand what might have caused Seargent Alhassan to react in this manner, the Suame MP said he was given a beating with the butt of a gun leading to a cut on his forehead.

The honorable majority was reacting to the decision by the NDC MPs to call for a probe into the violence recorded in the 2020 elections.

Mr Kyei Mensah Bonsu believes the attitude of the minority MPs smack of hypocrisy because they did not react in this manner to election related violence which occurred in the past.
