Today in parliament, only five (5) MP’s out of the forty one (41) defeated MP’s in the just ended NPP parliamentary elections reported to House today.
Hon. Prof. Mike Oquaye, the Speaker of Parliament made a heartfelt request to these defeated MP’s not to ignore their parliamentary duties following the loss in the NPP primaries.
He advised that, defeat are typical of elections and so it was imperative they did not allow their loss to influence their contributions to parliament proceedings.
The Speaker of Parliament encouraged the broken MP’s to accept their loss in good faith and not loss sight of the agenda as he addressed MP’s on the floor of parliament today.
He said “as far as matters of the House are concerned, you must act as statesmen and assume some circumspection in all we do and in all that we say.”
He however congratulated the emerged winners and encouraged the vanquished not to be disturbed by the changes so they could work towards assisting the government in developing the nation.
“We are in a very competitive situation and in fact one thing we should all realise is that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose,” he said.
Speaker Mike Oquaye chided both Minority and Majority MP’s that even their parties didn’t emerge winner in the December General elections, their roles as MP’s was still relevant in the house.
He concluded that , “And so I will say let us all attend to the business of the House with all seriousness and with all promptness,”
