A senior lecturer of the Kumasi Technical University (KTU) Mr. Edmund Oppong Prepah, has revealed that for fear of not being able to foot his medical bills, Hon. Alban Bagbin is refusing to step aside as the Speaker of Parliament.
He contends that eventhough some key members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) used to mock former Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Ocquaye age, time has proven that he is better and healthier than his successor.
“Despite the bad things they said about Mike Ocquaye, he never went for treatment like Bagbin is doing every two weeks”, Edmund Oppong Preprah said.
So far, the Government of Ghana has spent close to a $1 million on Hon. Bagbin’s health as he frequents Dubai every other day for treatment.
The lecturer stated on Wontumi TV that Hon. Bagbin is clutching unto the position inoder to have the state footing his medical bills in Dubai.
“Maybe he doesn’t want to step aside because of the conditions of service given to the Speaker. He is shy and doesn’t want to lose that privilege. Nobody would take him to Dubai if he steps aside. He takes a daily per diem of $1000 and his team also take $800 each day”, Mr. Edmund Prepah said.
