Okada Legalisation Is Already ‘Dead On Arrival’ – Civil Engineer

A renowned Civil Engineer, Mahama Abdulai (Ing) has warned legalising Okada will only worsen the already numerous road safety issues in the country.

According to him, the country is already plagued with many non-functioning road safety laws such as seat belts for commercial vehicles and it is likely that okada, even when legalised will still be abused and become a lawless venture.

“I have benefited from Okada when I was coming from Nsawam and got stuck in a traffic jam regardless of setting off three (3) hours before time. Though it helps, we should not legalize Okada usage in the country,” he said on Happy FM’s Happy Morning Show.

He believes that if regulations are even put in place to regulate the business, it will amount to nothing. “Few years ago, all the commercial vehicles (trotros) were mandated to have seatbelts fixed in all seats but do we see that now? How many vehicles have seatbelts for passengers?” he quizzed.
