Ofosu Ampofo Reacts To Shocking Cancellation Of Assin North Parliament Results Victory; Says It’s A Travesty Of Justice

National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has described the judgement by the Cape Coast High Court on Wednesday, July 28, annulling results of the 2020 Parliamentary Elections as a travesty of justice.

Addressing the press after the ruling, Mr Ampofo said the judges’ decision came as a shock to the NDC and its lawyers.

According to him, parties to the case knew that a ruling by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, July 27 directed that due processes are followed to transfer the case to the apex court of Ghana for hearing.

The court presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye, ordered for fresh elections to be conducted in the Assin North constituency.

The case of the petitioner is that the MP at the time of filing to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections, had not renounced his Canadian citizenship and thus held dual nationality.

Handing his judgement on Wednesday, the judge said the MP, Joe Gyaakye Quayson violated constitutional provisions and other statutory provisions that guide Ghana’s elections.

The NDC has expressed their intention to contest the judgement by the court.
