Former Executive Director of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Ghana), Ms. Gloria Ofori-Boadu expressed her displeasure with her disqualification by the New Patriotic Party, NPP from participating in the soon to be held Primaries.

Aspired to contest as a Member of Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) for the Abuakwa South Constituency but couldn’t make it to the Primaries.
Ms. Ofori-Boadu said she was vetted on the 7th of March, 2020 at Koforidua in what she said she wouldn’t call a vetting because of the hostility and the humiliating approach adopted by her own party’s panel.
“I was treated like a criminal and I had to leave because it was unbearable “ she said.
I was told my name was not even in the report and it was rumored that I have been withdrawn but I haven’t received any official communication until I heard it being discussed on a radio this morning.
Ms Ofori-Boadu said she has observed a pattern in the party where those aspiring for Parliamentary seats occupied by Ministers are being disqualified.
She calls her disqualification unfair and questions the kind of democracy the party sought to portray with what appeared to be handpicking of candidates rather than the delegates system in practice.
The human rights advocate cited a scientific research conducted by Mr. Ben Ephson, that says “Political Parties stand to lose about 400,000 votes if they handpick candidates”.
Hon. Samuel Atta-Akyea is the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party and currently the Minister of Works and Housing.
