NPP to Elect Akufo-Addo’s Successor in 2022?

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) are likely to elect its flagbearer ahead of the 2024 general elections in 2022, next year.

This is one of some 38 new proposals submitted to the leadership of the party for the amendment of portions of the party’s constitution.

The proposal seeks to amend the current constitutional provision of the party where it elects presidential candidates a year before elections when the party is in power and two years before elections if the party is in opposition.

Director of Communications for the party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa says the proposal will be considered during its annual delegates conference scheduled this weekend.

“All the proposals that have been forwarded will be debated and either accepted or rejected. Once accepted, everybody at the conference will know the ones that have been accepted, and then they will be made amenable to legal language and then incorporated into the Constitution,” he is quoted by Dailyguidenetwork as having said.
