NPP Remains Majority In Parliament As Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Afenyo Markin In Vacant Seat Saga

In a pivotal ruling, the Supreme Court has issued a 5-2 decision favoring Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin regarding the case of four vacant parliamentary seats which has caused a break in the affairs of parliament for a while now.

The decision marks a significant legal and political victory for the NPP government as it settles a hugely contentious dispute over the representation of the affected constituencies, where the status of the vacant seats had become a central issue.

Notably, counsel for the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Thaddeus Sory was not present in court during the proceedings, a factor that may have contributed to the proceedings’ unusual dynamics. While the absence was not immediately explained, it did raise questions about the extent to which the Speaker was willing to abide by the Supreme Court’s directive.
