NPP Polling Station Elections: Akropong Constituency Organizer, MP’s Errand Boy Arrested For Secretly Filling Electoral Forms
But for the timely intervention of the Polling station Elections commitee for the Akropong constituency, the Constituency organiser, Appianti and a man identified as an errand boy of the member of parliament for Akropong, popularly called Obour would have been lynched by the visibly angry crowd of party members at Mamfe.
Days after the deadline for submission of polling station executive forms had elapsed, Appianti and Obour have landed in the grips of the Police for completing forms for their favorite applicants in their car.
According to the party members, they received intelligence earlier about the activities of these two persons. According to them, the two earlier created a fake list of 94 people who they claimed had not supported the MP and was pushing for their disqualification from the polling station elections.
The two are also alleged to have tampered with and altered details on some of the forms submitted by the applicants.
Benefiting from the fact that the polling station executives forms were in the custody of the member of parliament and the constituency chairman, the two are alleged to have had the chance to progressively complete forms and replace at will, even beyond the timelines for submitting forms.
Earlier this morning, the Party members say, they gathered information that, Appianti and Obour were still scouting for possible candidates for some other polling stations and so these members formed a task force and had been trailing them since morning until they finally caught them red handed with already submitted forms and blank forms in Appianti’s car and in the act of completing the blank forms with new applicant details, an illegal act considering the deadline for submission of forms is long past.
They quickly made a citizens arrest, walked them to the Mamfe police station, handed them over together with the seized forms to the police.
The elections committee at the time was in a meeting in the area and upon hearing the news quickly moved in to calm nerves and attempt to resolve the issue.
The polling station elections in the Akropong constituency has been fraught with several misunderstandings as the Member of Parliament for the area Hon. Dokua has faced stiff opposition for the first time as she made several unsuccessful attempts to disqualify Incumbent polling station executives and even new applicants whom she suspects may not support her 3rd term bid.
According to the party members, the Member of Parliament and the constituency chairman, Frank Appiah are causing too much chaos in the party with their actions and hence they can no longer condone the said actions which they believe can destabilize the Party in the long term.
