The Assin Kyekyerwere Circuit Court has remanded Ebenezer Dwamena, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Twifo Ati-Morkwa Constituency, and two other individuals into police custody for a period of two weeks. The court’s decision comes in the wake of allegations of fraud leveled against the trio.

The case, presided over by His Honour Justice James Amoah, centers around an incident involving a businessman based in Twifo Praso. According to the prosecution, the businessman made a payment to Dwamena and his associates for the purchase of a vehicle. However, despite receiving the payment, the accused failed to deliver the vehicle as promised, leading to accusations of fraudulent behavior.

The identities of the other two individuals involved in the case have not been disclosed at this time. The prosecution has argued that the remand is necessary to allow for further investigation into the matter and to prevent any potential interference with witnesses or evidence.

The defense team for Dwamena and his co-accused has maintained their innocence, arguing that the situation is a result of a misunderstanding and that their clients have no intention of defrauding the businessman. They have also requested bail, citing their clients’ standing in the community and the lack of any prior criminal history.

However, Justice Amoah denied the bail application, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations and the need to ensure a thorough investigation. The case has been adjourned to [next court date], when the court will reconvene to assess the progress of the investigation and determine the next steps in the judicial process.

The remand of a parliamentary candidate on such serious charges has sent shockwaves through the Twifo Ati-Morkwa Constituency and beyond. Members of the NPP and the general public are closely monitoring the developments, as the case could have significant implications for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In a brief statement, the NPP constituency office expressed their concern over the allegations and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served. They also urged their supporters to remain calm and patient as the legal process unfolds.

The situation remains fluid, and the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the veracity of the charges against Ebenezer Dwamena and his associates.
