NPP MPs Silent On Anti-LGBTQI Law As Majority Chief Whip Punches Holes In Sam George’s Bill

Topping the news charts for some weeks now is the controversial LGBTQI issue and the bill which seeks to criminalize it.

Interestingly, as typical of Ghanaians, this issue, like all issues before it, appears to have taken on a political dimension.

Whereas, NDC MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George fiercely leads the charge to get the bill adopted, those in the majority side appear to have taken a passive stance.

Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen has wondered why MPs on the majority side have been mute on this topical issue of national importance.

Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh, in a tweet, described the bill by Sam George as defective.

Leading NPP stalwarts including cousin of the President, Gabby Otchere Darko have publicly criticized the bill and described it as backward.

It is unclear if the majority will support the passage of the bill, but with religious organizations calling for an open ballot, the coming days will be very interesting.
