A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has described Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s endorsement of Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a capable leader of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), as worrying for the party going into the 2024 general elections.
Dr Amakye Boateng stressed that the statement by Mr Ofori-Atta is problematic.
Dr Amakye Boateng is of the view that these early endorsements from some stalwarts of the party are not good for party cohesion.
He said these actions, if not checked, will destroy the fabric of the party.
He said the attempt to buy the party’s 2024 slot for the Vice-President is the highest level of lawlessness.
He noted that the party has a tradition that ought to be respected by all to ensure party cohesion.
“What is going on in the party will spell the downfall of the party,” he noted, adding: “Ghanaians will not allow the political patronage playing up in the party. I believe Ghanaians will not let this happen in the body politics of the country”.
Dr Boateng said these on Accra-based Neat FM today, Monday, 11 April 2022.
