Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has dared the Akyem Chiefs who protested against former president John Dramani Mahama over his rehashing of the ‘Akyem Sakawa’ boys post on social media.
Speaking on Accra FM’s 6pm News on September 9, 2020 he insisted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer did nothing wrong that warrants an apology.
According to him, the statement was made in context of the Agyapa Mineral royalties brouhaha and the people involved. He noted that John Mahama owes no one an apology because there are others who have made worst or similar statements but were not stopped from entering anyone’s land.
Mr Vanderpuye further affirmed that the NDC and John Mahama cannot be stopped by anybody from campaigning in any of the Akyem lands. He warned that we’ll see what will happen in the country if anybody dare stops the NDC from campaigning on their lands.
The Chiefs and people of the three Akyem states, Abuakwa, Kotoku and Bosome in a protest, issued a one-week ultimatum to the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to retract and apologise to Akyems for the “Akyem Sakawa Boys” tag or be banned from campaigning on any Akyem land.
