No Ghana Card, No Electricity Meter Very Soon – Energy Minister

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister for Energy and MP for the Ashanti Region’s Manhyia South Constituency, has intimated that Ghanaians without Ghana Cards will soon be unable to obtain energy or install meters in their homes.

“Very soon, you wouldn’t be able to get a meter if you didn’t have a Ghana Card. It is all about development, according to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and regulations are susceptible to change.

The law, which has not yet been put into effect, is a component of the government’s plan for energy sector development, according to the minister.

“I abide by the laws put forth by this nation. According to the country’s regulations, you must follow certain procedures if you require a meter, the Minister said.

Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s remarks follow a discussion over Hon. Ursula Owusu Akuful’s order to ban SIM cards by the end of September if people don’t link their mobile SIM cards to their National IDs.

The revised deadline for re-registering SIM cards with the Ghana card has raised concerns from the National Identification Authority (NIA), though.
