Nkoranza Traditional Council Disowns Elders Who Cursed NDC Over Alleged Mahama Snub

The Nkoranza Traditional Council, located in the Bono East Region, has officially distanced itself from a viral video showing some of its elders placing a curse on members of the community who plan to vote for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). The elders in the video expressed anger towards the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of keeping the paramount chief and the council waiting for hours after a scheduled courtesy call.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the Traditional Council clarified that it had no involvement in the video and emphasized that the views expressed by the individuals in the footage do not reflect the council’s values or practices. The council highlighted its commitment to maintaining positive relationships with all political parties and fostering dialogue for the benefit of the community.

The statement further urged the public to disregard the contents of the video and called for responsible reporting to protect the integrity of the council’s leadership.

This response follows the circulation of a video shared by Ashh FM, based in Kumasi, in which several elders from the Nkoranza area vented their frustration at the NDC for failing to honor a scheduled meeting with the paramount chief. The elders accused Mahama of disrespecting the chief by making him wait from morning until late in the evening without showing up. In their frustration, they were seen cursing anyone in the area who votes for the NDC in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general election.

The Traditional Council’s statement serves to separate the institution from the actions of these individuals, reaffirming its impartiality in political matters.
